Understanding Medicare

Medicare is a federal program that offers health insurance to American citizens and other eligible individuals. The program is often called Original Medicare (Part A & B)

Part A

Covers inpatient hospital and skilled nursing care benefits. This is usually free if you or your spouse paid Medicare taxes while working. Part A is usually free if you worked 10 years or more and paid Medicare taxes. If not, it will come with a monthly premium.

Part B

Outpatient care are doctor's visits, lab test, preventive services, durable medical equipment and some home health care. It comes with a monthly premium.

Part C

This is a Medicare Advantage Plan and it combines Part A, Part B and a prescription drug plan (PDP).

Some plans plans may offer additional benefits like coverage for routine vision and dental care.

Part D

Prescription Drug Plans are included with Medicare Advantage Plans. If strictly with Medicare alone, a plan will be separate and there would be an additional premium for the separate PDP if you don't choose a Medicare Advantage Plan.

MEDICARE SUPPLEMENTAL PLANS

Pays for the "gaps" in Original Medicare Part A & B.

You must have Parts A & B to qualify.

*With Medicare only, you will always have to pay the additional 25% that original Medicare does not pays. There is no limit to out-of-pocket expenses.

Premiums can go up each year - depending on the plan type, your age, and your zip code. But I'm here to help you stay ahead of the curve."

Supplemental Plans typically cover Part A deductible, Part D deductible (only for older plans, like Plan "F". Plans are A, B, C, D, F, G, K, L, M, N). Pays for Skilled nursing facility coinsurance. Emergency foreign travel will be paid for up to 80%. Includes paid blood (first 3 pints)
